Pairing Handmade Vessels by Local Artisans with Dishes Crafted by Valley Chefs

For Phoenix-based artist Joan Baron, being involved with the international group More Clay Less Plastic has inspired her passion for making original handmade wares that are beautiful, thoughtful and durable. “The connection to how something is made and where it comes from creates a significant link and defines us—the chef and the artist—as makers,” she says. “Understanding and appreciating where our food and home wares come from helps us realize we each have roles to play in shape shifting the health of our planet. And, this makes for lively conversation around the table!”

Chef/owner Danielle Leoni of The Breadfruit & Rum Bar chose a beautiful handcrafted earthenware plate by Baron. “I cannot imagine a better vessel than Joan’s plate to nestle what we value most—the hard work of those growing and harvesting our food responsibly,” says Chef Danielle. This fall assemblage celebrates the bounty of our Arizona farmland and sustainably raised seafood by featuring trout smoked over pimento wood in red beet cure, Arizona farm mélange, Hayden farro, seaweed rice cracker, crispy trout skin and passion fruit ginger dressing.
