Pairing Handmade Vessels by Local Artisans with Dishes Crafted by Valley Chefs

Phoenix-based ceramic and jewel artist Judith Amiel-Bendheim says, “Eating from a handmade plate creates a unique relationship between the creative artist and the user.” Judith was born in Jerusalem and moved to Phoenix in 2007 with her husband, a native Arizonan. She sells her ceramic dinnerware and other creations at The Museum Store at the Phoenix Art Museum, at Practical Art and at various art shows. “I’m so honored that Chef Rochelle is using one of my pieces to plate her incredible food!”

Executive Chef Rochelle Daniel of Fat Ox chose a beautiful small handmade bowl by Judith and decided on a colorful summer dish to showcase it. The star of the dish is the fish: cobia. Chef precisely poured a smoked onion soubise into the bowl and added a squid-ink chicharron. We photographed the dish on the patio at Fat Ox on a picture-perfect day.
