CSAs Break Out of the Box: Do You Want Goat Cheese With That?
Just in time for the fall season, Valley CSAs and produce delivery services are expanding to offer new local and seasonal foods in addition to their usual boxes of farm fresh produce. No time to shop? Just let your fingers do the driving on the internet and you can take care of most of your local food shopping in one fast transaction. Here are a few of the new offerings.
Chow Locally is the new kid on the block: Their local food pickup service debuted at Phoenix Public Market in mid-August. Order produce, flowers, honey, meat and more by Thursday evening for pick up at the market on Saturday morning. An East Valley pick up is also rumored to be in the works.
Desert Roots Farm was an early pioneer in CSA expansion with a monthly meat, dairy and egg co-op program, and the addition of a Superstition Farm dairy option to their weekly box. Look for more options for home delivery of these items beginning with the fall season. Both full and half shares are available.
Duncan Family Farms is expanding its popular "Salad a Day" program to include local goat cheese, pasta and more when it resumes service in November. Members are only required to make a four-week produce commitment and pick up is available at participating Valley businesses and Whole Foods Market Scottsdale.
RhibaFarms has a new points-based CSA concept. Just purchase points on their website and you can "spend" them however and whenever you want for produce, sprouts and even a chicken adoption! Pick up is at their Gilbert and Chandler locations or at the Saturday Downtown Phoenix Public Market.
