Treehouse Bakery
This sweet, nostalgic shop in Phoenix calls back to innocent times with pink stripes painted on the walls and eclectic local art. Owners and Chefs Corianne Nelson and Amanda Sizemore have been baking since they were young, but joke that they ran out of people to give it away to until 2010 when a friend complained that she couldn’t find any vegan baked goods and the stars aligned to kick start their business. Starting out in some of the Valley’s farmers’ markets, they grew their business and opened their first brick-and-mortar location in April 2012.
With as many special orders for wedding cakes as walk-ins, Nelson and Sizemore offer a variety of vegan flavors and individual treats. Their signature French Toast cupcake—a maple cinnamon cake soaked in maple syrup, frosted with a maple buttercream and topped with cinnamon sugar— is so popular that it’s available every Friday. Chef Nelson’s favorite is their Peanut Butter cupcake, made with “a lot of peanut butter” and golden flaxseed. Treats that will take you back to your childhood are their homemade pop tarts made with a buttery tasting, but vegan crust, filled with pumpkin, fig, strawberry or blueberry filling, and glazed.
Treehouse Bakery is open all days except Monday and welcomes walk-ins or special orders.
