If you’re not sure you want to commit to one winery, or if you enjoy tasting wines from a variety of places, you might want to check out the club at your neighborhood wine shop. Many offer special events and tastings, opportunities to meet winemakers or other experts, and other social and educational events. You’ll also receive a variety of curated wines on a regular basis to keep your cellar full.

A few in the Valley:

Membership is $19.99 per month and entitles you to special e-mail offers, access to allocated wines, two-for-one wine tasting and 10% off on special orders at Tracy Dempsey Originals.

The Wine Shop at Tarbell’s, 3205 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix 602-955-WINE tarbellswinestore.com

The Explorer Club offers six different bottles a month grouped around a style, grape or region for around $80. Cancel any time.

Mark’s Wine Club is for those who want to spend more for high-end curated wines. You’ll get two unique bottles a month for $1,200 a year, payable in quarterly installments. In addition, membership includes paired recipes from Chef Mark Tarbell, tastings, winemaker dinners and special sales. One-year minimum.

The Route 29 Club is the most exclusive and designed for the discriminating oenophile. The selections are focused on the Napa Valley and include one to three rare and hard-to-find bottles every month, along with other benefits. It’s a pricey $6,000 a year, but if you love wine and have the budget, you’ll get lots of mileage out of the bragging rights.
