It's another Plant Party:

Plant Walk and Picnic with Wild Desert Foods at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Rain or Shine!

I will send you the exact directions to our plant walk location which is approximately 1 mile away from the "Kelly's Kitchen" address.

This will be in the same area as our January 1st Plant Walk. The photo above was taken on our rainy walk on New Year's Day, 2023. The plants have really changed since then! A new feature will be a visit to the "Octopus Tree," an Elephant Tree (Bursera) and Ironwood that have grown together for 50 years or so 2 inches away from each other. The ironwood protects the elephant tree.

Another new feature will be Flash Cards with the name of each plant that I will set by each plant as we find it. Everyone can take photos of the plant with the name so you will remember what you learn.

Check your Spam and Promotions Folders!

That is where many of my e-mails land. Text or call me at 480-216-0966 if you do not receive directions within a few hours of registering.

We'll meet in an Ahwatukee (a designated village in Phoenix) neighborhood street that adjoins one of my favorite trails that I've been hiking for 15 years.

Edible Plants we will see: Barrel Cactus, Buckwheat, Saguaro Cactus, Ironwood Tree, Paloverde Tree, Velvet Mesquite Tree, Wolfberry, and Cucumber Weed (Pellitory)

Medicinal Plants: Trixis, Desert Plantain (Indian Wheat), Creosote, Bursage, Senna, Elephant Tree, Indian Tea (Mormon Tea), White Ratany Bush, Brittlebush, and Desert Lavender

Non-Edible/Non-Medicinal Plants: Scorpionweed, California Suncup, Desert Rockdaisy, Lupine.

Important Pollinator Plants: Desert Milkweed

How did a Paloverde Tree solve a murder case in Phoenix? Come find out!

The hike is of moderate difficulty. Some of the walk is in a sandy, dry riverbed. There are some rocky, slippery areas as well. The total length will be approximately one-half to 1.5 miles depending on how far the group wants to go!

I will bring some wild desert goodies for a little picnic.

Please wear sturdy hiking shoes; bring sunscreen, a hat or visor, and drinking water.

If you change your mind or are unable to attend, please notify me so I can let people on the wait list attend.

Please fill out this liability waiver form online as soon after registering as possible.

Here is the Waiver Liability Form for you to fill out electronically on your computer. It is required for all attendees: https://tinyurl.com/cactuskellywaiver

This must be filled out immediately when you register and with the actual name of each person attending. Otherwise, your spot will be opened for someone on the wait list

The form asks for your name, email, and cell phone (in case I'd need to text you with event information). There are several boxes to check. Then you put your signature on the bottom by typing in your name. Then make sure to hit the Submit button.

Make sure you read the Confirmation E-mail I'll send with the directions to the plant walk locale--different from "Kelly's Kitchen." Look in your Spam Folder!
