Secret Ingredients for Cookbook Success - Industry
There are many ways to define success as it relates to a cookbook. More than simply a reflection of bestseller status, success can refer to how a book is written and organized, how clear recipe instructions are, how enticing and informative the headnotes might be, and the degree to which you keep your audience in mind, be it extended family, the general public, or a group of people who have a shared experience, such as a church or synagogue.
Please bring a project you want to work on. Deborah is available to review it and help you make it better. Participants are given the opportunity to share their manuscripts in the classroom—reading out loud, asking for critiques and comments, and maybe getting praise.
We host visits from local food writers, who discuss their experiences writing cookbooks and working with different kinds of publishers, from small houses to big houses to university presses and delve into a variety of cookbooks for inspiration. We also visit the Santa Fe Farmers' Market, where you can certainly find a story or two to write.
Join Deborah for an exploration of the many ingredients that come together to create a successful cookbook.
