The ​​learning ​​objectives ​​of ​​this ​​class ​​include: ​ 
1. ​Learn ​about ​garden ​design ​for ​the ​low ​desert, ​characteristics ​of ​the ​Sonoran ​Desert ​and ​water-wise ​gardening: ​soil, ​water, ​temperature, ​etc. 
2. ​Learn ​how ​to ​think ​about ​your ​outdoor ​space ​as ​"outdoor ​rooms"--how ​you ​plan ​to ​use ​your ​space ​will ​determine ​elements ​you'll ​need ​as ​well ​as ​plant ​choices. 
3. ​Learn ​about ​elements ​of ​design ​and ​style ​(hardscape ​and ​softscape) ​that ​you ​can ​combine ​and ​layer ​to ​create ​a ​lush, ​beautiful ​and ​usable ​outdoor ​space. 
4. ​Learn ​about ​recommended ​desert ​plants ​that ​thrive ​here ​and ​how ​to ​choose ​the ​"right ​plant ​for ​the ​right ​place" ​for ​year-round ​beauty ​and ​enjoyment.
